Panic Attacks: A Quick Overview

Common Triggers for Panic Attacks:

  • Inside supermarket
  • On Tube/ Train/ Bus
  • Lifts
  • Queuing Up
  • Upsetting news
  • Stress
  • Worry
  • Chest Pains

Physical Symptoms:

  • Shortness of Breath
  • Heart palpitations
  • Dizziness
  • Tingling Hands/ Feet
  • Feeling Faint
  • Feeling Hot/ Cold
  • Blurred Vision

Cognitive Symptoms:

  • Thought Rushing
  • Can’t Concentrate
  • De – Realisation
  • De – Personalisation

Common Safety Behaviours:

  • Sitting / Lying Down
  • Holding Onto Things
  • Breathing Fast/ Slow
  • Carry Water
  • Having a Comfort Radius i.e. 1 mile from House

Common Catastrophic Mis-interpretations:

  • I’m having a Heart Attack
  • I’m having a Stroke
  • I’m going to Faint
  • I’m going to Wet Myself
