What to expect from Addiction Treatment
The core therapy used to treat addictions is CBT Therapy for Addictions. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a psychotherapy that aims to reduce excessive emotional reactions and self-defeating behaviours by modifying the faulty or erroneous thinking and maladaptive beliefs that underlie addiction.
CBT Therapy for Addictions helps individuals to come to grips with the problems leading to emotional distress and to gain a broader perspective on their reliance on substances etc for pleasure and relief of discomfort. In addition, specific cognitive strategies help to reduce their urges and at the same time establish a stronger system of internal control.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Addictions can help individuals to combat their depression, anxiety, guilt or anger which frequently fuels addictive behaviour
How can I ensure I remain free of the Addiction?
By teaching Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention for Addictive Behaviours, we can provide the recovering individual with a powerful and effective way to stay in recovery.
Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) is an aftercare program integrating cognitive behavioural relapse prevention skills and mindfulness meditation practice for individuals who who have completed initial treatment for addiction.
In our experience, this programme is best suited to individuals who have completed addiction treatment, are motivated to maintain treatment goals and are willing to make lifestyle changes that support their well-being and recovery.
The MBRP programme is designed to bring practices of mindful awareness to individuals suffering from the addictive trappings of the mind. The practices in the programme are intended to foster increased awareness of triggers, habitual patterns and “automatic” reactions that seem to control our lives. These practices cultivate the ability to pause, observe present moment experience and bring awareness to the range of choices before us in every moment. Ultimately we are working towards freedom from deeply engrained and often catastrophic habitual patterns of thought and behaviour.
